Tangedco to provide Generation Based Incentives for solar energy supplied to the grid by Domestic Consumers...

 

Installation of rooftop solar energy systems is expected to get a boost as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will soon start implementing the Generation-Based Incentive Scheme announced in the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy.

The scheme envisages installation of 50MW under it. Domestic consumers will get Rs. 2 a unit for solar energy supplied to the grid during the first two years.

An official of the Tangedco here told The Hindu that suggestions were recently sought from the local officials on installation of solar energy systems by domestic and commercial consumers and for common purpose (such as street lights). Solar connections in an area will be 30 per cent of a transformer’s capacity.

The consumers will have to buy two meters.

One will be installed near the solar panels to assess the energy generated.

Another one will be to assess the solar energy supplied to the grid from a house or commercial building and energy consumed from the grid.

Working instructions
The official said that working instructions were expected soon so that they could start implementing the scheme.

Consumers will have to bear the cost of meters and the wiring for installing these. Since the Government has announced incentive for solar energy supplied to the grid, more consumers may go in for it, the official said.

A. D. Thirumoorthy, energy consultant and a former official of the Tangedco, said that the scheme is only for those who use the solar energy generated without storing it or supply the energy generated to the grid.

The consumers should be permitted to use store the solar energy generated. Only then would it encourage installations, he said.

There are a number of installations that do not require the export/import meter as the consumer might not have excess power to export to the grid.

Hence, this should be an option and not mandatory.

Gamesa wins order to set up 50MW wind farm for Green Infra...

 

Gamesa Wind Turbines has won an order to supply wind turbines and set up a 50MW wind power project for Green Infra, an independent power producer backed by IDFC Private Equity.

Under this contract, Gamesa would set up 25 units of 2MW turbines at Kosegaon, Maharashtra. The project is scheduled to be complete in two phases. Gamesa would develop the site.

It would supply, commission, operate and maintain the turbines for a period of 10 years, a statement from the company said.

"We are happy that Green Infra has joined the customer base of Gamesa India. This business deal comes at a time when the wind industry is poised to bounce back in the light of the government announcing restoration of generation based incentive scheme (GBI)" to the wind industry, Ramesh Kymal, chairman and managing director, Gamesa India, said.

Gamesa recently won orders to set up a 46MW wind power project for ITC Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division and two projects for Greenko and CLP India, totalling 230MW with an option to further supply 200MW to Greenko, and all are set to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2014.

Scheme for Promotion of Wind Projects continued; registration process with IREDA for GBI Scheme started...

 

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has conveyed the President of India's sanction for continuation of the "Scheme for Promotion of Grid Interactive Power Generation Projects based on Renewable Energy Technologies for Wind Power projects" during 12th Five Year Plan.

According to the Ministry's notification to various State Nodal Department/Agencies and other implementing agencies, the scheme shall be implemented during 2012-17 as per the norms/guidelines and other provisions which were applicable during 2011-12.

In this regard, the Ministry states that it will continue to provide financial support for carrying out Wind Resource Assessment, organization of seminars/ symposiums/ workshop/ training programme, strengthening of technical institutions, testing facilities, engaging consultants, etc. on a case-by-case basis.

In light of this sanction for continuation of this scheme by the President, MNRE is requesting all SNAs to take up projects for implementation as per the guidelines of 2006-07 till further communication.

It may be noted that the scheme for Promotion of Grid Interactive Power Generation Projects based on Renewable Energy Sources started implementation in 2006-07.

Also, in a separate development IREDA has started the registration process for the "Extension Wind GBI Scheme" for the 12 plan ie. (2012-17) which was extended by MNRE vide its notification dated 04/09/2013.

Under the "Extension Wind GBI Scheme"

• a Generation Based Incentive (GBI) will be provided to wind electricity producers @ Re. 0.50 per unit of electricity fed into the grid for a period not less than 4 years and a maximum period of 10 years with a cap of Rs. 100 Lakhs per MW.
• The total disbursement in a year will not exceed one fourth of the maximum limit of the incentive i.e. Rs. 25.00 Lakhs per MW during first four years. The GBI scheme will be applicable for entire 12th plan period having a target of 15,000 MW.
• GBI would be available for wind turbines commissioned on or after 01.04.2012 and for entire 12th plan period and shall be governed by the guidelines.
• The incentive would be available for grid connected wind power projects set up for sale of electricity to the grid, at a tariff notified by SERC and /or State Govt. and also for Captive Wind Power Projects including Group Captive to the extent of sale of electricity to the grid only.
• Exclusion: GBI would not be available to any wind power project selling power to third party, (viz. merchant power plants).
