Himachal cabinet approves sale of power to Tata Power Trading Company Limited…

 

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Thursday approved the selection of Power Trading Corporation of India Limited and Tata Power Trading Company Limited (TPCL) for a year for the sale of government's entitlement of power from various hydroelectric projects.

In a meeting chaired by chief minister Virbhadra Singh, the cabinet decided that the trading margin might be increased if better rates for power sale were received.

The cabinet also gave its nod to the establishment of a government engineering college at Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district. This college will have 40 seats each in mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering and electrical engineering.

Giving the impetus to health care, the cabinet also approved primary health centres (PHC) at Sheelghat, Shimla, and Patta-Baravery in Solan district, and a health sub-centre at Dattowal village in Solan district.

The government also sanctioned industrial training institutes (ITI) for Gagret, Balh, Manali and Patta Mehlog with two trades from the next academic session along with creation of posts. A veterinary dispensary at Navi, Shimla district, also got the cabinet's nod along with filling up of a post of veterinary pharmacist and a post of animal husbandry assistant.

The state cabinet also accorded approval to the establishment of Poorna Shakti Kendra (PSK) project in Solan district.

Besides, the government also approved filling up of 100 vacant posts of ayurvedic medical officers in the ayurveda department on contract basis, and filling up of 50 posts of clerks on contract basis by direct recruitment through Himachal Pradesh Subordinate Service Selection Board, Hamirpur, against the vacant posts of senior assistants in relaxation of recruitment and promotion rules and keeping equivalent number of posts in senior assistants in abeyance.

The cabinet's nod was also given to eight posts of lecturers in IGMC Government Dental College, Shimla, by direct recruitment through Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC). State government also accorded approval to fill up the post of director, sainik welfare department, on regular basis through the HPPSC, besides filling up of 8 vacant posts of deputy directors (Class 1) in the sainik welfare department through direct recruitment on contract basis. The approval was accorded to the draft notification of Himachal Pradesh Raj (Appointment and Conditions of Service of Panchayat Sahayaks in Zila Parishads) Rules, 2014.

Manali Hydel project wall collapses during trial run...

 

The reservoir of a hydel project near here burst on Sunday morning during a trial run of filling it with water, causing panic in settlements downstream. The exercise was undertaken just a few days before the commissioning of the project at Aleo village.

A 4.8MW hydropower project, Aleo Manali Hydropower Pvt Ltd stage-II, being set up on Allain Nullah, is scheduled to start power generation by the end of this month. Sources said the project management had opened the inlet gates of the reservoir, which has capacity to store 12,000 cubic meter of water, on Saturday. A day later, around 10am, a huge chunk of the reservoir wall collapsed when it was filled to only 75% of its capacity. As the water breached embankment, levels in Allain stream and the Beas rose suddenly, causing panic among residents in Kullu and Bhuntar towns, some 50 kms from here.

An official of the project management said the reservoir was being filled on a trial basis, but a wall collapsed before it was filled to capacity. "We have suffered huge losses. The reasons for the incident are still unknown. About 95% work of the project has already been completed," he said.

According to Manali sub-divisional magistrate Vinay Dhiman, the project management had not informed them about filling up the reservoir on trial basis. "It could have proved fatal for many. We are looking into the matter and those found guilty will be liable for legal action," he said.

Vashisht panchayat pradhan Govardhan Thakur alleged that the project management had neither informed them of the filling of reservoir nor warned the public. Thakur Dass, pradhan of Prini village, located next to the project site, said the management should take extra care of the people and property in nearby villages.

Alstom T&D India bags contracts worth Rs 298 crore in HP...

 

Alstom T&D India on Friday said it has received two orders worth Rs 298.3 crore for supplying equipment for power stations in Himachal Pradesh.

"Alstom T&D India has been awarded two contracts with a total value of Rs 298.3 crore to supply two gas-insulated substations (GIS) at Wangtoo and Gumma in Himachal Pradesh," an official statement said.

The projects respectively received from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and HP Power Transmission Corporation Limited (HPPTCL), aim to improve the transmission capacity of HPPTCL for the transport of electricity generated by hydropower sources across the state, the statement.

The scope of the Wangtoo project, worth approximately Rs 155 crore, covers the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of gas-insulated switchgear, power transformers, instrument transformers and substation automation system.

The Gumma project worth Rs 143.3 crore includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing, commissioning and covers civil works of GIS substation on a turnkey basis.

All key equipment for both the projects will be produced by Alstom's manufacturing facilities across India, the statement said.

"With these dual contract wins for HPPTCL, Alstom is pleased to earn the confidence of its customer for the provision of advanced GIS solutions at the Wangtoo and Gumma substations," Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India, said in the statement.

Shares of Alstom T&D India were trading at Rs 190.70, up 3.42 per cent on the BSE.

NTPC to commission its first hydel project in Himachal Pradesh...

 

State-run NTPC is likely to commission its first hydro power project, Koldam in Himachal Pradesh, in the next six months.

"The inauguration of filling up of the reservoir of the 800 MW capacity Koldam project may be done tomorrow and the entire process takes about 6 months or so," a source told PTI.

In about six-to-eight months, power production from the Koldam project will commence.

According to sources, the project which was started in 2003, will have a cost overrun of about 20%. The approved investment of the plant was Rs 4,527 crore.

It has been delayed mainly due to environment and geological hurdles. The project was earlier slated for commissioning in 2009.

The project will supply electricity to Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh.

Koldam has an installed capacity of 800 MW comprising four units of 200 MW each.

Himachal Pradesh, the home state of the hydel plant would get 12 per cent free power as royalty, 15 per cent at bus bar tariff and 2.75 per cent as the grid distribution share from the 800 MW project.

Bus bar tariff is the cost per kilowatt hour of producing electricity and includes the cost of capital, debt service, operation and maintenance, and fuel.

The company is also executing three more hydel plants -- Tapovan Vishnugad (520 MW) and Lata Tapovan (171 MW) in Uttarakhand and  and Singrauli Small Hydro Project (8 MW) in Uttar Pradesh.

At present, NTPC generates 42,454 MW of electricity and plans to add 14,000 MW in the current plan period (2012-17).

Lanco in talks with CESC to sell Budhil Hydro Power asset...

 

Lanco Infratech is in talks with Kolkata-based CESC to sell the Budhil Hydro Power Project, sources with direct knowledge said. Deal talks are hovering around Rs 750 cr for the 70 MW hyro power project in Himachal Pradesh, negotiations are still on, sources said.

Macquarie is the advisor to Lanco for sale of Budhil Hydro Project. Lanco needs to sell assets and infuse cash into the company to fulfill the terms of CDR (Corporate Debt Restructuring), a source said. A consortium of lenders has given a nod to a Rs 7,700 cr CDR package.

Lanco said, "the information is not true and we do not wish to comment on media speculation." Sanjiv Goenka of CESC was unavailable for comments on the development.

Valecha Engineering Limited bags Project in Himachal Pradesh in the Hydro Power Tunnelling Segment...

 

Valecha Engineering Limited has recently bagged a project from NHPC Ltd worth Rs. 176.29 crores for construction of balance civil works of head race tunnel by DBM, Associated Works and HM Works (Lot PB2B) of Parbati HE Project Stage II in Himachal Pradesh.

With this project, the tunnelling segment constitutes 10% of the order book of the company.

Shares of Valecha Engineering Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs.34.45, down by Rs.1.25 or 3.50%. The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.36.50 and low of Rs.34.10.

The total traded quantity was 0.11 lakhs as compared to 2 week average of 0.33 lakhs.
