Alstom T&D secures Rs. 138 Crore contract from PGCIL...

Alstom T&D India has secured a Rs 138 crore (approximately Euro 17 million) contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to supply transformers and reactors for the expansion of 400/220 kV grid substations across southern India. The project is part of Power Grid’s System Strengthening Scheme to boost power handling capacity of substations, and stabilise the transmission infrastructure in southern India.

 

Under this new contract, Alstom will supply six units of 400/220 kV, 500 MVA transformers and two units of 420 kV, 125 MVAr shunt reactors. All equipment will be supplied from Alstom T&D India’s manufacturing facilities across the country.

 

This is Alstom’s second win to strengthen the country’s transmission infrastructure under the System Strengthening Scheme. The first power transmission reinforcement contract was awarded in July 2014 to expand 400/200 kV grid substations across eastern India.

Alstom T&D India bags Rs 106 crore contract from RIL…

 

French power equipment maker Alstom's India arm has bagged a contract worth Rs 106 crore from Reliance Industries Limited for supplying equipment for the latter's Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat.

"Alstom T&D India was recently awarded a contract worth Rs 106 crore from Reliance Industries for supplying transformer packages for its Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat," the company said in a statement filed with the stock exchanges today.

According to sources, the contract was bagged by Alstom T&D in December 2013. The scope of the contract includes designing, engineering, manufacturing, supply and supervision of erection and commissioning of transformers and other equipment, the company said.

"We are pleased to partner with RIL once again. We remain committed to delivering high quality, cost effective products and services," said Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India. Shares of the company were trading at Rs 189.50 apiece, up 3.02 per cent, during afternoon trade on the BSE.

Power grids need to be more intelligent, feels Alstom chief...

 

India is a world leader in the power transmission business, but lags behind in the transmission end of the business, said Gregoire Poux-Guillaume, Executive Vice-President, Alstom, and Head of Alstom Grid Worldwide, here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inaugural session of ELECRAMA 2014, an international event of the power transmission and distribution industry, Mr. Guillaume said, “The problem is mainly because of under-investment as a result of the heavy losses being made by companies.” Observing that the global energy markets are ‘changing like never before’, Mr. Guillaume said, ‘Grids need to be more intelligent’.

For instance, digital sub-stations were needed to cope with the dynamic nature of energy supply and demand. He pointed out that the rising proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix had resulted in the emergence of ‘prosumers’ — entities that generate energy at certain times but also draw energy from the grid at other times. “Greater automation of the grid is, thus, a necessity,” he observed.

The rapid expansion of the grid capacity in the last few years belied the notion that economic growth in the country had tapered off, contented Devendra Chaudhry, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Power. He pointed out that about one lakh circuit kilometres of capacity was to be added to the distribution network, and about 2.8 mega volt amperes of transmission capacity was to be added in the next few years. “I do not think this kind of expansion can be termed a slowdown,” he quipped.

Alstom T&D India today said it has bagged an order worth Rs 54.4 crore for supplying equipment to Bihar State Power Transmission Company.
    
"Alstom T&D India has secured Rs 54.4 crore turnkey contract from Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited," the company said in a statement.
    
The state government of Bihar plans to add a number of new voltage level substations at various locations in the state in near future.
    
In this context, the substation at Bihta is important as it is the first in the series in energy expansion plan of the state, the statement said.
    
The scope of this turnkey contract covers design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing, erection and
commissioning of (air-insulated switchgear) AIS substation including supply of transformers, it said.
    
In addition to this, all major equipment like circuit breakers, instruments transformers and control and protection system will be manufactured in Alstom T&D India's manufacturing facilities spread across the country.

Alstom T&D wins orders worth Rs 162 cr for substations in West Bengal...

 

Alstom T&D India on Tuesday said that it has bagged three contracts worth Rs 162 crore (€24 million) from West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (WBSETCL) for projects across the State.

The first two contracts include design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 220/132 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) package for Vidyasagar Industrial Park at Kharagpur and 220 kV GIS package at Dharampur. The orders are worth approximately Rs 60.7 crore (€9 million) and Rs 30.9 crore (€5 million), respectively.

As part of the third contract, worth Rs 63 crore (€10 million), Alstom will supply a 400 kV substation and a 220 kV transformer bay at Gokarna, and a 220 kV substation and feeder bays at Krishnanagar.

The 400 kV air-insulated substation (AIS) is constructed to evacuate power from the 1,000 MW Sagardighi Power plant (Phase II). It will be directly connected to the substation of PowerGrid.

“With these orders, Alstom T&D India has secured leadership position with more than 50 per cent market share in eastern India for GIS and AIS substations,” Rathin Basu, Managing Director, said in a statement.

West Bengal has planned major investments in the transmission and distribution sector. The aim is to build the transmission backbone of the State, through which power will be channelled from the eastern part of the country.

Alstom T&D India bags contracts worth Rs 298 crore in HP...

 

Alstom T&D India on Friday said it has received two orders worth Rs 298.3 crore for supplying equipment for power stations in Himachal Pradesh.

"Alstom T&D India has been awarded two contracts with a total value of Rs 298.3 crore to supply two gas-insulated substations (GIS) at Wangtoo and Gumma in Himachal Pradesh," an official statement said.

The projects respectively received from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and HP Power Transmission Corporation Limited (HPPTCL), aim to improve the transmission capacity of HPPTCL for the transport of electricity generated by hydropower sources across the state, the statement.

The scope of the Wangtoo project, worth approximately Rs 155 crore, covers the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of gas-insulated switchgear, power transformers, instrument transformers and substation automation system.

The Gumma project worth Rs 143.3 crore includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing, commissioning and covers civil works of GIS substation on a turnkey basis.

All key equipment for both the projects will be produced by Alstom's manufacturing facilities across India, the statement said.

"With these dual contract wins for HPPTCL, Alstom is pleased to earn the confidence of its customer for the provision of advanced GIS solutions at the Wangtoo and Gumma substations," Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India, said in the statement.

Shares of Alstom T&D India were trading at Rs 190.70, up 3.42 per cent on the BSE.

Alstom to supply components to BHEL for Neyveli New Thermal Power Project...

 

ALSTOM India Ltd has informed BSE that Alstom has been awarded a contract worth close to €125 million (i.e. 10,700 million INR) by BHEL for the 2X500 MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (NNTPP) located at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will co-operate with BHEL in conceptualising, designing, engineering and supplying two tower boilers and the complete lignite milling and firing equipment, and critical components.

Out of the entire aforesaid contract, ALSTOM India Limited''s scope of work would be €65 million (i.e. 5,564 million INR).

CCI clears merger of Alstom, Kalyani Group joint venture firms...

 

The fair-trade regulator has approved the proposed merger of two companies jointly owned by French major Alstom and industrial player Kalyani Group, saying the deal will not adversely affect competition.

The transaction involves the absorption of Kalyani Alstom Power into Alstom Bharat Forge Power, which will be the surviving company.

Both entities are jointly controlled by Alstom Power Holdings SA and Bharat Forge Ltd, the flagship firm of the Kalyani Group.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) said in a December 10 order that "the proposed combination is not likely to have appreciable adverse effect on competition in India."

The regulator observed that after the deal, ultimate control over Alstom Bharat Forge Power would remain jointly with Alstom Power Holdings and Bharat Forge.

Alstom holds a 51 per cent stake in Alstom Bharat Forge Power, a maker of steam turbines and generators, while the rest is with Bharat Forge.

Bharat Forge has a 51 per cent stake in Kalyani Alstom Power, with the remainder held by Alstom. Kalyani Alstom makes heat exchangers and auxiliary equipment for steam turbine generators.

The Commission noted there was "no horizontal overlap" between the business activities of the two companies.

"The products of ABFPL (Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd) and KAPL (Kalyani Alstom Power Ltd) would be complementary to each other for the setting up of turbine islands for sub-critical and super-critical technology based power plants," the regulator said.

"However, KAPL has not started any business activity and has also stopped construction of its manufacturing plant and ABFPL has also not supplied any products to KAPL," it added.

Besides, Alstom Bharat Forge Power's manufacturiing plant and ABFPL has also not supplied any products to KAPL," it added.

Besides, Alstom Bharat Forge Power's manufacturing facility is scheduled to start in 2015, the CCI noted.

The boards of both companies approved the merger in October, following which the CCI's clearance was sought.

Alstom T&D eyes new business opportunities worth Rs 15,000 Crore...

 

Alstom T&D India, an arm of French firm Alstom, today said it is eyeing new business opportunities of close to Rs 15,000 crore in the power transmission space in India in the next 3-4 years.

"A series of projects is coming up and they will require several SVCs, PMUs (grip components) in different parts of India and we at Alstom are more than ready to do it," Rathin Basu, President and Managing Director of Alstom T&D India, told reporters here.

Grid security technology is another great opportunity coming up in the next 3-4 years, Basu said.

Static Var Compensators (SVCs), 1700 Phasor Measurement Unit (PMUs) are used in electricity transmission grids.

He said 30 SVCs and 1,700 PMUs would be required by March 2017 for transmission network strengthening in the country .

Government has already started the tendering process for for SVCs which is a Rs 3,000-4,500 crore business opportunity, he said, adding in the PMUs technology space the opportunity is close to Rs 6,000 crore.

"These devices will make the grid more secure and protected," Basu said.

In the area of providing technology for grid security the potential is about Rs 3,000-4,000 crore, he added.

Basu said: "We have set up factories, we have technical manpower and we can deliver such projects."

Alstom T&D India's share in the transmission equipment and EPC market has risen to 19 per cent from 13.5 per cent in 2007, the company said.

The company's turnover 2012-13 stood at Rs 3,150 crore. The company is investing Rs 100 crore this year for expansion of its Vadodra (Gujarat) facility.

Basu also said that the government's initiative of restructuring the loans of power distribution companies should happen quickly and will benefit his company.

As per the plan, state governments will take more than 50 per cent of the outstanding short-term liabilities of the discoms up to March 31, 2012.

The debt would then be converted into bonds to be issued by discoms to participating lenders, duly backed by State Government guarantee.

Alstom T&D India selected by GETCO to integrate renewable power to the Western grid...

Alstom T&D India  has been awarded two  contracts from  GETCO  (Gujarat Energy Transmission Company Limited)  to  supply 400KV/220KV/66KV   AIS substation  on turnkey basis,  located  at Charanka and Sankhari, to evacuate power from Asia's largest and Gujarat's first dedicated solar park.

The substations will also play a pivotal role in strengthening transmission network in the state of Gujarat by acting as the evacuation and nodal grid substations. Additionally it will also improve the energy flow in the western region of India.

Both the orders, worth approximately INR 1510 million (€22 million) involves  manufacture, supply, erection, testing,  and commissioning of 400 KV Substations with Alstom's key products like 400kV, 220 KV & 66 KV air insulated switchgear and related equipment, SCADA automation system along with  the civil works. All equipment  will be manufactured by Alstom's world-class manufacturing facilities in India.

Alstom T&D India wins Euro 9 million shunt reactor package for Power Grid's Kanpur and Jhatikara765 kV substations...

 

Alstom T & D India Ltd has won an order worth approximately Rs. 790 million (Euro 9 million) from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited to provide 14 shunt reactors for the 765 kV electrical substations at Kanpur and Jhatikara in the Uttar Pradesh state. The projects are due for delivery in 2015.

Alstom's shunt reactors will have the highest power rating installed on India's Extra High Voltage (EHV) 765 kV electrical grid. The reactors are designed to maintain the 765 kV voltage level, whatever the load, by limiting transient over-voltages which can occur due to sudden load decreases.

All 765 kV equipment for these projects will be manufactured in Alstom's transformer and reactor manufacturing facility at Vadodara in Gujarat, India.

Shares of Alstom T & D India Ltd was last trading BSE at Rs.174.45, down by Rs.1.40 or 0.80%. The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.178 and intraday low of Rs.171.55.

The total traded quantity was 0.11 lakh shares as compared to 2 week average of 0.20 lakh shares.

Alstom bags Rs 79 cr order from PowerGrid for substations in Uttar Pradesh...

 

Alstom T&D India today said it has bagged Rs 79-crore contract from state-run Power Grid Corporation for supplying equipment at substations in Uttar Pradesh.

“Alstom T&D India has won an order worth Rs 79 crore (9 million euro) from Power Grid Corporation to provide reactors for substations at Kanpur and Jhatikara in Uttar Pradesh,” the company said in a statement.

The projects are due for delivery in 2015.

The reactors are designed to maintain the voltage level, whatever the load, by limiting over-voltages which can occur due to sudden load decreases.

All equipment for these projects will be manufactured in Alstom’s transformer and reactor manufacturing facility at Vadodara in India, the statement said.

“This contract further reinforces the confidence that Power Grid has in Alstom’s capability to deliver products and solutions from its state of the art manufacturing facilities,” Alstom T&D India Managing Director Rathin Basu said.

Shares of the company closed at Rs 183.15, up 1.86 per cent on the BSE.

ICRA reaffirms ratings for bank facilities of Alstom Bharat Forge Power Limited...

 

ICRA has reaffirmed the long-term rating outstanding on Rs. 1350 crore long term loans of Alstom Bharat Forge Power Limited (ABFPL) at [ICRA]BBB+ (pronounced ICRA triple B plus). ICRA has also reaffirmed the short-term rating outstanding on Rs. 1890 Crores non-fund based limits of ABFPL at[ICRA]A2+ (pronounced ICRA A two plus)). The outlook on the long term rating is stable.

The aforementioned ratings were placed under rating watch with developing implication which has been removed.

The rating reaffirmation factors in the comfort from technical, managerial and financial support available from both the sponsors i.e. Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) rated by ICRA at [ICRA]AA-/[ICRA]A1+ and Alstom Power Holdings SA (100% subsidiary of Alstom SA). ABFPL is expected to benefit immensely from technical competence of Alstom in the power equipment's space and BFL’s established presence within India. The ratings also factor in the satisfactory long-term demand prospects for super-critical technology based power generation units given in huge demand-supply mismatch in the domestic power sector notwithstanding the short-term concerns impacting the power sector. Moreover, ABFPL has a current order book for supplying five supercritical STG (Steam Turbine Generator) to NTPC, which lends some visibility to company’s revenues in the short to medium term.

The ratings are however constrained by the in delays in project completion due to shifting its project to a new location and the associated project execution risks. Moreover, ratings factor in high level of competitive pressures in the super-critical STG industry from both indigenous manufacturers (setting up large capacities in JV’s with foreign players) and relatively cheaper imports from China. Ratings also factor in coal shortages, regulatory issues and uncertain financing scenario from banks in the power sector which can delay the capacity addition in the power sector and adversely affect the order book and revenue booking in the near-term. ICRA also takes into account weakening credit profile of Alstom SA, ultimate holding company of Alstom Power Holdings which has 51% shareholding in ABFPL, as reflected by ratings downgrade from Baa2(negative) to Baa3 (Stable) by Moody’s.

The removal of ratings watch factors in the finalization of company’s plans of shifting its manufacturing facility to Sanand, Gujarat and completion of land acquisition for the project after High Court of Gujarat had instructed ABFPL to cease all construction activities in Adani Port Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) until the SEZ obtains the Environmental Clearance from MoEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests), GoI.

Project Profile
The company is setting up the project to manufacture turbine generators in both the super-critical and sub-critical range of (300 MW - 800 MW) rating. The annual capacity of the project is 5000 MW and the project (with estimated initial cost to the tune of Rs. 1950 crore) will be funded in a debt to equity ratio of 70:30. The equity contribution will be in the ratio of 51:49 by Alstom Power Holdings SA and BFL. The company has incurred a capital expenditure of ~Rs. 279 crore till date. In May 2012, High Court issued an order which has prohibited any construction at company’s premises within Mundra SEZ due to absence of environmental clearance with the SEZ. The company had stopped construction at its premises subsequent to the High Court ruling and has decided to shift its manufacturing unit to Sanand, Gujarat.

Alstom T&D India on Thursday said it has been awarded contracts worth Rs 130 crore by Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (AP Transco).

The deal is to supply two air-insulated substation projects to strengthen the power supply in Andhra Pradesh.

“Alstom’s 400 kV air-insulated substations will help meet energy demand by transporting the power produced at Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd’s 1,040-MW coal-based thermal power station in Vishakhapatnam district across the State,” the company said in a statement.

BHEL in talks with alstom and foster wheeler for tie-up in CBFC boiler technology...

 

France's Alstom and Switzerland-based Foster Wheeler AG are frontrunners for a possible partnership with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) in the circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) boiler segment.

This is a technology where the state-owned equipment firm is not considered as strong as competitors in the domestic market such as Thermax and ThyssenKrupp India.

With distinct commercial advantages in the long run and its credentials as a clean carbon platform, CFBC boilers are expected to be increasingly used for power generation as well as for industrial applications in the future, with a projected domestic market potential of around 8,000 MW per annum.

BHEL officials indicated that the company was in various stages of talks with both Alstom and Foster Wheeler for a partnership in the large CFBC boiler segment.

Unlike in the case of coal that is powdered, pulverised and then burnt in a furnace, the CFBC boilers have the advantage of fuel flexibility.

These boilers can also be operated with non-coal fuel options such as lignite, bagasse and straw.

The advantage accruing from clean-coal platform will be by way of fuel flexibility to burn a variety of fuels — coal, lignite, coal washery rejects, biomass and waste materials — at a low combustion temperature.

While BHEL does have some in-house expertise in commissioning small CFBC sets of 125 MW, the state-owned company hopes to design and develop large-sized CFBC boilers in the technology partnership that it is trying with Alstom and Foster Wheeler.

Early last year, BHEL had commissioned its first unit of 250 MW lignite-powered CFBC boiler at Neyveli Lignite Corporation complex in Tamil Nadu, after having supplied two 125 MW CFBC boiler units for Surat lignite power project through a technical collaboration with Germany's AE&E Lentjes.

Typically, in the CFBC boilers, fluidised beds suspend solid fuels in upward-blowing jets of air during the combustion process, resulting in a stormy mixing of gas and solids.

Alstom T&D India wins order worth Rs. 1 billion from Power Grid...

 

Alstom T&D India will help monitor and control India's electricity supply network with two contracts worth 1 billion INR (€12.5 million) awarded by Power Grid Corporation of India.

Alstom will supply its energy management system (EMS) to enable reliable, secure and efficient operation of the electric power system. The scope of the two contracts covers EMS packages for India's Southern and Western Regional Load Dispatch Centres (SRLDC and WRLDC).

The growth in India's electrical grid capacity requires the upgrade to both 765 kV AC transmission and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission for bulk power transfer. These technologies need to be backed up by equally advanced energy management software. Alstom T&D to supply transformer package for NPGCL Power Plant...

 

Alstom T&D India will supply a power transformer package for Nabinagar Power Generating Com Ltd' (NPGCL) super thermal power project located in Bihar. The project is part of a bulk tender which has been set up to accelerate the pace of thermal capacity addition.

This order, worth approximately Rs 105.5 crore (14 million), covers design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing, erection and commissioning of generator transformers and associated power transformers and shunt reactor. The Nabingar power transformer package is due to be delivered by October 2017.

All equipment will be manufactured by Alstom T&D India's transformer manufacturing and testing facility in Naini (Uttar Pradesh), the company said in a statement.

Alstom T&D received Rs. 255.8 Crorers contracts from Power Grid Corporation for development of substations

 

Alstom T&D India Ltd has received five contracts worth Rs. 255.8 Crorers from the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd  (PGCIL) for development of substation at various locations.

 

The brief summary of the contracts won by Alstom T&D are:

• Two contracts worth Rs 166 crore for supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 400 kV substation extension packages.
• Contract worth Rs. 40 Crores for delivery of high-tension 765 kV circuit breakers for various substations across India.
• Contract worth Rs. 27 Crores for supply of 765 kV reactors for Power Grid's Padghe, Aurangabad, Bhiwani, and Meerut substations.
• Contract Worth Rs. 22.8 Crores for supply of 400 kV reactors for Power Grid's Khandwa Purnia, Gajuwaka Baripada and Bhiwani
  

As per the company officials, once commissioned, these substations will help make more power available to meet the growing demand for electricity in the western region and will significantly improve the reliability and efficiency of the transmission grid. These reactors will strengthen power transmission network in northern and western regions of India 

All circuit breakers will be manufactured and supplied by the company from its factory located at Padappai in Tamil Nadu.

Alstom got Rs. 55 Crs orders from NTPC…

Power equipment major, Alstom Ltd,  has recently secured two contracts for the execution of turnkey station control and instrumentation (C&I) for National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) projects.

 

In a release, the company said that it will be providing the C&I equipment for NTPC's 660-MW supercritical projects for Solapur II and Mouda II in Maharashtra. These contracts are worth around Rs 55.4 crore.

 

Alstom said that this is the biggest project for the company in the C&I segment in India and also the first contract provided to Alstom by NTPC in the C&I 660-MW segment.
