Tata Power want the Moser Baer to be debarred…

Tata Power DDL

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL), a Joint Venture of Tata Power and Delhi Government, asked to debar Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Ltd due to the poor performance of solar projects.

TPDDL has awarded three solar projects to Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Ltd, a unit of the Moser Baer group.

A letter has been issued by TPDDL to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) which says:

  • The performance of the solar plants installed by Moser Baer has not been up to the industry standards.
  • The letter cites a number of failures, including failure to adhere to contractual timelines leading to “tremendous delay” in commissioning of the projects, poor engineering leading to “faulty design and frequent change in layouts”, quality of workmanship and high system losses leading to actual electricity generation being much less than the guaranteed generation.”
  • The “poor response to client’s complaints for rectification of faults” and the “weak operations and maintenance support”.

As per the news reports, the said letter has been copied to around 87 industry people of Ministry of Power, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and various State Electricity Regulatory Commissions.

AS said by TPDDL, “We had been following it up with them (Moser Baer) for over one year but there was no proper response. However, after the letter was issued (on May 7), there has been some action from Moser Baer side. If the action is satisfactory, we may withdraw the letter.”

Moser Baer plant to restructure Rs. 1800 Crorers debt…

Moserbaer Logo

Moser Baer has revised its corporate deb restructuring plan to Rs. 1,800 Crorers from the earlier planning of Rs. 739 Crores.

As said by the Moser Baer, the company is considering restructuring of debt as it looks to strengthen its abilities to leverage future opportunities in the growing sector.

The current debt restructuring of Rs. 1,800 Crores of term debt is almost half of the total debt of Rs. 3,500 Crores.

Rapidly falling prices of solar panels and components has also impacted the profitability of solar cell makers, with companies like Solar Millennium and Solon SE filing for bankruptcy.

Moser Baer is also in discussions with banks for refinancing its outstanding Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (about $88.5 million as nominal value).

Banks are positive about the company's future plans and Moser Baer is looking forward to speedy completion of the debt restructuring and thereafter, to consolidate business and cash flows

The company narrowed its loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2012 to Rs 59.60 crore from a loss of Rs 131.20 crore in the same quarter last year.

Total income from operations increased to Rs 462.33 crore in the reported quarter from Rs 458.95 crore in the year-ago period.

The company is bullish on the solar industry as the global PV market is forecast to witness substantial growth on account of higher installations anticipated in key markets such as the US, Germany and China.

According to the The industry witnessed a 76 per cent year-on-year growth in PV installations during 2011, as per a EPIA - Global Market Outlook 2016 report.

Moser Baer Solar enters debt restructuring cell with RS.739 Crs in restructuring…

India’s  solar power ambitions may get a jolt with the first major company in the industry  Moser Baer Solar headed to the corporate debt restructuring cell with Rs 739 crore in restructuring.

Moser Baer Solar is a subsidiary of  Moser Baer India. Another subsidiary company Moser Baer Photo Voltaic with a debt of Rs 823.63 crore was admitted to CDR in January.

“In April, companies including Moser Baer Solar, Gontermann-Peipers (India) and PCH Retail have approached the corporate debt restructuring cell,” said a banker in the know of the development. “These cases will be discussed in the next meeting,” he said.

Moser Baer Solar expressed its inability to comment on the development as its chief financial officer was traveling overseas. Firms operating in the solar energy space have been under strain following developments in European markets.

Solar energy companies are involved in manufacturing of solar panels and are also procuring land and setting up solar energy projects,” said Pashupathy Gopalan, MD, Sun Edison India. “In the past one year, these companies have been under strain as the European market, particularly the Italian government, has dialed out and reduced its solar policy. The demand is much lower than supply and prices of solar panels have dipped over 50%,” said Gopalan.

The Italian market has slowed in anticipation of the government’s decision on a new solar subsidy scheme to be rolled out in June.

In February, banks had cleared debt restructuring for Moser Baer India. Banks had an exposure of Rs 2,000 crore to the company.

India’s renewable energy investment potential is estimated to be nearly $2 billion, but experts say investors are seeing demand only for hydropower generation while solar power and wind energy are stuck with taxation and regulatory issues.

Rating agency  CRISIL in its report said it expects banks to restructure loans worth 2 trillion by March 2013
